Mt. Abram
Mountain Trails &
not the highest mountain in Maine, but I definitely would not agree with their description of themselves as "Family Winter Resort." For the budget conscious families with small children, this place fills račun.Ljudi who manage this resort are friendly and really work to maintain their deserved reputation. Described as the "Little Gem" in Ski Magazine, Mt Abram has 44 trails serviced by 5 lifts, with something for just about every level of skier. What really makes this mountain so perfect for young families, is a separate beginners area Westside.Westside home is ideal for families with small children in the camp van. Along with food service, ski school and nursery, you can purchase a day lift ticket for $ 20 for beginners, very accessible way to introduce your child to ski. In addition to Westside home, there is a main lodge (and a little shop), with a nice-shuttle that runs between the two. When you reach the top of the 1500-foot vertical mountain, be sure to take some time to enjoy the view of Mt. Washington and lakes.
Lodging and activities
Although there is no accommodation on Mt. Abram, there are many options nearby. We stayed in a motel Mollyockett last February and the owners, Fran and Tim can not be hospitable. They put our two families in an apartment with two bedrooms and a large adjoining room big enough for 5 children. Our efficiency apartment is complete with microwave oven, small refrigerator, complimentary DSL and cable. They also have an indoor, heated swimming pool with sauna and hot tub, a great treat after a long day on the slopes.
Bethel is also very close and well worth exploring. This city offers a wide range of options for accommodation: quaint Bed and Breakfast, affordable motels, and full-service Inns. In fact, if you go to Mt. Abram's web site, you will find links to a number of Mt. Abram partners (which means that they usually offer some discount tickets), as well as the Bethel Chamber. Saddleback
& Mountain Trails
It was about 5 years since I last skied at Saddleback, and I understand the changes in motion, like a mountain under the new ownership. However, skiers can assure that it remains the same friendly environment, people have come to love. That was certainly my experience at that time. It is very relaxed, laid back feel to it, with a very rustic home. In fact, this is what I remembered from high school ski trip. While maintaining the quality that people come to kn-ow, and appreciate, Saddleback has opened 4 new trails and glades, 30 additional chairs on the Rangeley ski lifts and more snowmaking capacity (something that was not previously known). Other positive changes have lower pass rates of the season (always a good thing) and the new and improved food service (again), is a good thing. I look forward to returning soon to experience the changes firsthand. Located in the beautiful Rangeley Lake, Saddleback is 2000 vertical feet offers 54 trails with a wide range of skiing terrain for all skill levels. You'll find a good place for beginners, intermediates for a lot of work and some very challenging trails for experienced skiers here.
Lodging and activities
Rangeley area has plenty of places for lodging. There are privately owned track suites available that can be borrowed through Saddleback's in-house rental agency. Check their website for prices and availability. You'll also find links there for B & Bs, inns, motels, hotels, and rental agents who can find you cottages, houses or apartments for rent. During my last visit, my immediate and extended family rented a large house for a week, which is fun and affordable ski odmor.Rangeley chambers can point you in the right direction for accommodation, restaurants, and shopping information on.

Black Mountain
& Mountain terrain
This small family ski area should not be overlooked for a good trip. Last winter, my brother and I ventured to Black Mountain from the bathroom with 5 children in tow. All in all, it was good, very affordable day. With a vertical drop of 1150 meters, offers a wide selection of pretty grounds. For anyone who has skied in the Black Mountain before 2004, they added a triple chair to the summit in 2004-05 season. Although the mountain has 20 trails, we found many opportunities for our two youngest skier (who was 6 at the time). My older children who are 10 and 12, found a lot of good trails to explore. To be fair, it's pretty cold, windy and snowy days, so we did not get the experience of Black Mountain in optimal conditions. That said, I loved the home (mothers pay attention to these things). It is very new, clean and nicely done, with a toasty fire, warm our cold toes. Maneuvering the car filed to raise all felt very easy (which is a real plus when you have 5 children, 5 sets of 5 pairs of skis and heavy boots). For those avid Nordic skiers, Black Mountain also offers 17 km of groomed cross-country trails. By the afternoon our troops were ready to get off windy mountain and do some cijevi.Puno fun and again, very affordable. I've run a couple of times and really enjoyed it. Definitely worth the price of tickets, which is only $ 12.
& Lodging Other Activities
Black Mountain is really ideal for people who live in Maine, looking for a good ski trip. But for those who need to find accommodation in the area, you can find links to the Rumford Association web site. You'll also find links to other events in the Rumford area.
